Ninh Thuan Province is reviewing and planning to call for investors to develop tourism and aquaculture in the reservoir.
On May 13, 2022, Mr. Tran Quoc Nam, Chairman of Ninh Thuan Provincial People's Committee, said that the province was assigning the agricultural sector to review and propose planning on lakes and lakeside at irrigation lakes in the area. After that, the province would widely announce to call for and attract investment according to regulations.
Mr. Nguyen Cong Xung, Chairman of Ninh Thuan Irrigation Works Exploitation One Member Limited Liability Company (Ninh Thuan Irrigation Company) said that, there are currently seven reservoirs under the company management and exploitation with an area of about 2,500 hectares with water reserve, large open surface area, and beautiful natural scenery.
For example, Song Cai Lake has an area of 1,147 hectares and a capacity of 219 million m3; Tan My Irrigation System directly irrigated 7,480 hectares of arable land, supplying water to Nha Trinh - Lam Cam Dam system to irrigate 12,800 hectares area.
These lakes are located in connection with tourist attractions, monuments, convenient transportation, and fresh environment, suitable for various types of tourism such as recreational resorts, forest-lake ecological research, mountain climbing sports, and water sports... creating a variety of tourism products with great attraction.
According to Mr. Xung, the exploitation of aquaculture and tourism in the reservoir would add value to the agricultural industry, while protecting the lakebed and developing tourism potential, besides, the company would generate revenue.
“Tourism will be combined with aquaculture by cages in the lakebed. After the Provincial People's Committee has comments, we will study and develop control criteria for the environment, waste treatment and safety," said Mr. Xung.
Mr. Xung said, Ninh Thuan Irrigation Company had sent a document to the Provincial People's Committee on the development of criteria for selecting investors for the project of aquaculture, tourism exploitation at Song Cai Reservoir and some lakes in the province.
Mr. Ho Xuan Ninh, Chairman of Bac Ai District People's Committee, added that the district had proposed a master plan for the Song Cai Reservoir Area - Tan My Irrigation System to call for investment in tourism and service development. The Provincial People's Committee assigned the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to assume the prime responsibility and coordinate with relevant agencies to study the above proposal.
When coming to inspect the Song Cai Reservoir Project - Tan My Irrigation System in Bac Ai District recently, Prime Minister Mr. Pham Minh Chinh noted that Ninh Thuan province should have study and use more effectively the lakebed and lake surface like the possibility of developing solar power in the region; tourism development; and aquaculture in the direction of environmental protection.
